An excellent opportunity for you to receive a Shiatsu treatment and ask questions about your health/issues as well as about Shiatsu.

About Rachel

Rachel came to Shiatsu in mid-life which has allowed her to devote time and enthusiasm to this fascinating therapy over the last 20 years. She gained her diploma at a branch of a British college in Athens where she lived at the time, and since then has done many postgraduate courses in the UK. She finds enormous fulfilment in practising Shiatsu, and also enormous fulfilment in continually learning more about this ancient art.

Rachel is enthusiastic about Shiatsu as it is a holistic therapy treating the whole being, both physical and emotional, simultaneously.

In the West these two aspects of our being are usually separated but in Chinese Medicine we are considered to be one entity. However this is still recognised in the language we use – for example ‘A raging headache’, ‘Sick at heart’, ‘Shouldering responsibility’, and ‘Can’t stand it’ are some of the phrases we use naturally without analysing that our headache, malaise, stiff shoulders or backache may have emotional connections. It is very gratifying when Shiatsu clients depart not only with greater physical wellbeing but with greater emotional wellbeing as well.

Rachel has a private practice in her home on the North Norfolk coast near Holt, Cromer, and Sheringham where she has lived for some years now. With a private practice at her home she can be flexible in her hours sometimes working at weekends or early or late hours if needed.

My background from finishing University was in social care. I worked in residential and day services with adults with learning disabilities and also in the field of mental ill-health. I practiced Ju-jitsu for over 15 years and also practice yoga. I have been a Shiatsu practitioner for 27 years and ran my own Shiatsu school, the Northern School of Shiatsu for the last 20 years.

I had my first experience of Shiatsu on a six month course at Sheffield University. Following on from this I did 2 years with the Shiatsu College in London. Since then I have done a range of courses and post-grad work with teachers including Pauline Sasaki, Kiko Matsumuto and Clifford Andrews.

I have been a Shiatsu practitioner since 1991. During this time I have ran my own private practice. I have also a wide range of experience working in other fields. I have done placements working with adults with physical disabilities for Sheffield City Council. I have also worked in substance misuse services. For the last two years of my time in Sheffield I worked at the Cavendish Cancer Care Centre and Weston Park Hospital, offering Shiatsu to cancer patients and their families. Within my private practice people come from all walks of life with a range of physical, emotional and psychological concerns.

For the past 20 years I have ran my own Shiatsu school and taught at Bradford College, Rotherham College and Buxton College.

I offer Shiatsu treatments in Seaton Burn, Newcastle upon Tyne.

I graduated from the Northern School of Shiatsu in July 2018 and currently in the early stages of setting up a Shiatsu practice in Sheffield. Having a background in nursing and education I am passionate about helping people with their own health and wellbeing.

For further information please do not hesitate to contact me for an initial chat, or check out my Facebook page.

My journey began in 2003 after receiving my first Shiatsu treatment. I later began studies at the European Shiatsu School graduating after a thorough and complex 3 years of training – including topics like quality of touch, Oriental medicine, anatomy, physiology, pathology and counselling proficiency. As part of my continuing professional development I completed post-graduate modules on Shiatsu for pregnancy and childbirth.
I also hold Reiki I & II qualifications. I have been practicing Yoga for nearly 25 years and am now also a fully trained (Nuad) Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner.

I have always had a keen interest in holistic therapies and my studies and practice are an ongoing journey. I am motivated to continue my quest for knowledge and special interests include meditation and nutrition.
I offer treatments in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information, or to book a treatment.

I am 3rd year student Shiatsu practitioner with the Northern School of Shiatsu. I am based and practising in Gairloch in the Scottish Highlands.

I am a Zen Shiatsu practitioner who  studied Shiatsu at the British School of Shiatsu-Do and the Genki School of Shiatsu for three years, qualifying in 2003 and in private and on-site seated Shiatsu practice since then. Additionally I was a Teaching Assistant at the BSS-Do for two years and Senior Teaching Assistant at the Genki School for four years. As a Senior Teaching Assistant I worked closely with the school principal to refine, deepen and develop my own Shiatsu theory and practice while assisting other students in doing the same.
I’ve continued to develop my own practice over subsequent years, adding skills from both the West and the East including Taoist Energetics, Meditation and Healing, Sufi Essence Work and techniques drawn from Ortho-bionomy, biodynamic craniosacral, positional release, neuromuscular facilitation and a number of others.

Empty Wheel Shiatsu is the natural evolution of this training and experience, a form of healing and therapy rooted in the ancient practices of Taoism but which has grown, over two decades of personal development and continuous study, to take in understanding and methods from Western physical therapies, Sufism, Buddhism, Diamond Logos Essence work and others.

The majority of my clients come looking for help with a specific problem but, over the course of their treatments, they quickly realise that Shiatsu aids their life in unexpected and valuable ways and it is these factors that keep them coming back to Shiatsu and deepening their own health and resources through an ongoing process of healing and exploration.

Over the past two decades I have found Shiatsu to be an effective treatment helping clients with a range of difficulties. Shiatsu may help with:

  • Stress and its effects
  • Muscle and joint problems (aches, pains, tension, and injury)
  • Migraine and headaches
  • Back pain and spinal alignment
  • Life transitions (including retirement, bereavement, conception and others)
  • Processing difficult emotions
  • Safely holding and releasing trauma (including PTSD and complex PTSD)
  • Jaw problems (including TMJ issues)
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Insomnia and other sleeping difficulties
  • Recovering from injury and surgery

I have found that the best approach to healing is to treat each client as a whole that encompasses the fullness of their Being. As such, we (client and practitioner) look to integrate body, mind, and soul in order to manifest the innate healing power that exists in us all. When that power manifests we feel stronger, more capable, more grounded, more relaxed, and life develops a sense of ease and comfort. These qualities come to permeate every aspect of our lives, transforming not just our own inner sense and understanding but also transforming our lives and relationships in subtle and profound ways. We come to know ourselves and our life in a new way.

While Shiatsu is on par with many Western physical therapies in treating physical ailments (muscular and skeletal problems for example) it can take us deeply into the felt sense of our experience to reveal our deepest inner capacities, restoring energy and vitality that can be manifest in every aspect of our life to the benefit of ourselves, our families, and our friends.
