I am an experienced Shiatsu practitioner in Bristol. I trained for 3 years with the Bristol School of shiatsu, also a yoga teacher, masseuse and nutritional therapist.  I will soon be fully qualified to offer kinesiology as well.

I offer Shiatsu from:

  • The Wellbeing Therapy Rooms, Hamilton House, 80 Stokes Croft, BS1 3QY
  • The Practice Rooms, 24 Regent Street, Clifton, BS8 4HG or 39 Cotham Hill, Bristol, BS6 6JY
  • I also do home/office visits and am available for events.

As well as encouraging you to relax deeply and access your innate capacity for healing I also seek to empower you to take control of your life and your own wellbeing. I will share my knowledge of healing through breathing techniques, nutrition, meditation etc. Healing for me is the movement back to wholeness or integration of what seem like fragmented parts of our Being.  It involves acknowledging the hidden and perhaps more ‘uncomfortable’ aspects of ourselves and welcoming them as part of our authentic self. Each experience of Shiatsu is unique.

I also specialise in Shiatsu for Pregnancy, Childbirth and Post-Natal Recovery.

Shiatsu is wonderfully supportive for a woman journeying through the different stages of pregnancy. It can be applied safely and effectively to support a woman to feel at ease physically, mentally and emotionally. Shiatsu may provide relief from nausea, lower backache, shoulder tension, difficulties in breathing, constipation, anxiety, oedema, post-natal depression and fatigue. I have studied pregnancy Shiatsu with Suzanne Yates from the Wellmother School and have supported a number of women during pregnancy and beyond and found it to be very nourishing and beneficial.

Please feel free to contact me for an informal 10 minute chat. We can then organise a session for you.

Details of my special offers can be found on my website.

Testimonials:

“I have suffered with IBS for years and after finding prescribed medication and diet change was not working I looked into alternative therapies. I had 5 sessions of shiatsu and have found it to have had an enourmous effect on my symptoms. It has made me understand the connection between my emotions, largely stress and worry, and the issues with my stomach.Shiatsu with Lioba gave me the tools to learn to relax and to break the connection between negative emotions and my physical well being. It was the first time I had ever had shiatsu and knew very little about it but I would most definately have treatments again. After the treatments having such a profound effect on my symptoms“ – Cath, Support Worker (Bristol)

Lioba has an amazing gift for body work. I always leave the room feeling lighter, unburdened and with energy flowing again. She creates a wonderfully warm and safe space to open up. As an asthmatic she has helped me become more in tune with the areas of my body which can become tense and cause my asthma to worsen. I wholeheartedly recommend Lioba“. (Heg, singer-songwriter, Bristol)

My first Shiatsu massage was blissfully relaxing. I left feeling affected in a deep way, very different to how I feel when I normally receive a massage. I’m certain to return.” Richie, Engineer (Melbourne)

Lioba’s Shiatsu sessions are thorough, personal and friendly and she combines great knowledge with intelligent hands. There is always plenty of good advice, reassurance and never any pressure to come back. I feel qualified to thoroughly recommend her treatments“- Rupert, Sports Massage Therapist (Bristol)

I have a degree in Complementary & Holistic Therapies and have been a qualified Shiatsu Practitioner for 12 years in private practice and with Derby Women’s Centre. Emanating from my work at the Women’s Centre was a desire to deepen my practice working with trauma so I undertook a PGdip in Person Centred & Experiential Psychotherapy.  I have a deeply held belief that therapies should be affordable for all. In response to this belief and passion I have set up Elephant Rooms, a ‘not for profit’ social enterprise venture in Draycott, Derbyshire specialising in the provision of a safe and tranquil environment for the promotion of community health and wellbeing.  The vision is:

To provide a diverse range of natural therapies, classes and workshops promoting health and wellbeing for the local community.
The objective is to provide something for everyone; a wide range of therapies and treatments across the spectrum focused on natural health and wellbeing.

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself. It works on the whole person – not just with the physical body, but also with the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of being.

Shiatsu originated in Japan from traditional Chinese medicine, with influences from more recent Western therapies. Although Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, in practice a practitioner uses touch, comfortable pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body’s physical structure and balance its energy flow. It is a deeply relaxing experience and regular treatments can alleviate stress and illness and maintain health and well-being.

I trained for 3 years at the Northern School of Shiatsu.

I began my Shiatsu journey in 2015, enrolling on the Foundation Course with the Northern School of Shiatsu in Sheffield. I had received a single Shiatsu treatment from a friend who was completing the three-year Diploma and I was instantly intrigued. The treatment felt wonderful, and was different from anything I had experienced.

I was drawn to the process of self-development and self-healing that Shiatsu could offer me. I graduated from the Northern School in 2018 and therefore have over three years’ experience giving and receiving this restorative and unique form of therapy. From January to July 2018, I undertook a voluntary placement at the Well Women Centre in Wakefield, allowing women on a low income to access treatment they would not ordinarily be able to experience. In August 2018 I became the third Director of In Touch Massage and Holistic Therapies CIC, a social enterprise which aims to make holistic therapies accessible to everyone, including minority, socially excluded and low income groups.

I am constantly developing the practical and theoretical application of Shiatsu, and my knowledge, confidence and professionalism are growing at a remarkable speed. My professional background prior to discovering Shiatsu was very varied. I worked in the fields of publishing, communications, international relations, mental health, housing, advocacy, law and education.

I live in Morley in south Leeds and I have a two-year-old baby girl.

A dedicated graduate from the Northern School of Shiatsu. My clinic is based in Hull, Humberside.  I offer discounted treatments at just £10!

About me:- Yoga is my passion and I am a yoga teacher and practice yoga myself on a daily basis. I qualified as a Reiki Master/Teacher in 2003. Exercise is important to me, doing cardiovascular work, exercise at a gym, plus regular walking and jogging. I am a strong family member of the Quakers.

My professional background is in teaching and dance. I was drawn to Shiatsu for no obvious reason. It just felt right! What better reason can there be for doing something ? Intriguingly there are more parallels with my previous work than I could ever have imagined. In essence whether teaching, dancing or giving Shiatsu I am being with another, listening to their needs and seeking to support them in what they wish to achieve. Throughout a shiatsu session I aim to create a space in which our joint intuition can flourish so that my clients can deepen their experience of relaxation or enhance their self-awareness and self-healing processes. I believe that to support this it is essential that I respect each client as a unique individual and be sensitive and responsive to their changing needs during a session and from one session to the next. I look forward to working with you.

I trained at the Bristol and European Schools of Shiatsu and completed a 3-year diploma course in Shiatsu.
